Did you know, Red Bull originated from Thailand? The ones you drink today are from Austria. As the ingredient list is easily accessible from the can or bottle itself, I shan’t touch on that but one thing I’ll say for sure is that it has found its way into our lives as a form of energy drink to boost concentration and energy both in physically taxing activities as well as being the student’s favourite substance for mentally challenging last-minute study cramps sessions for exams.

As much as it is all these, being ever the philantrophist (I’m kidding, clearly), it also contributes as a mixer with alcoholic drinks such as vodka and is the catalyst in changing the humble Jägermeister into the fan-favourite Jägerbomb. Well, i’ve bored you enough with all this lachrymose trivialities. The interesting i wanted to convey though is another trivial matter, so here goes.

As you know, Red Bull is renown and consequently drunk for its contain of Taurine.

But did you know, Taurus is the latin word for Bull and lo and behold, Taurine, or 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, is an organic acid made from........*drum roll*........bull sperm. In its natural form, taurine is derived from animal tissue, having first been isolated from bull (bos taurus) bile.

(Cow: Yeah, serves you right for taking our milk and eating our kind!)

But fear not, regular patrons of the Red Bull merchandise, “The taurine in Red Bull® Energy Drink is a purely synthetic substance produced by pharmaceutical companies and is not derived from animals or animal materials.” (Another direct quote from Redbull.com).

Red Bull is thus, Halal, Kosher and suitable for Vegans.
